Teeth Whitening

Teeth Whitening in Ginza, Tokyo

Professional whitening lightens the natural color of your teeth safely under a dentist's supervision. We offer in-office whitening, home whitening, or a combination, and explain your options in English.

Teeth Whitening Procedure

Is whitening right for you?

Whitening works on natural teeth stained by coffee, tea, wine or aging. It does not change the color of crowns, veneers or fillings. We check your teeth and gums first, because cavities or gum problems should be treated before whitening.

How it works

  1. Check and shade record: We examine your teeth and record your starting shade.

  2. In-office whitening: We use the BEYOND whitening system: a whitening gel is applied and activated with a special light at the clinic.

  3. Home whitening: We make custom trays for you to use with whitening gel at home.

  4. Follow-up: We check the result and your comfort, and can add sessions if needed.

Cost (tax excluded)

In-office whitening, full set (6–20 teeth, 3 sessions): ¥75,000

In-office whitening, single session: ¥30,000

Additional session (within 6 months): ¥15,000

Fewer than 5 teeth (per tooth): ¥5,000

Home whitening first set (trays + 4 gels): ¥20,000

Gel refill (2 syringes): ¥5,000

Extra tray (per jaw): ¥5,000

Sensitivity care, UltraEZ syringe: ¥1,000

Sensitivity care, UltraEZ trays (upper and lower): ¥1,500

Whitening is private (self-pay) treatment and is not covered by Japanese national health insurance.

Treatment period

In-office whitening is usually done in 3 sessions. Home whitening usually takes about 2 weeks of daily use. [confirm] Results vary from person to person.

Possible risks and side effects

  • Temporary tooth sensitivity during or after whitening

  • Temporary gum irritation

  • Results can be uneven, especially with white spots on the teeth

  • Crowns, veneers and fillings do not whiten and may need replacing to match

  • Color gradually returns over time, so touch-ups may be needed

  • Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding

  • Because the in-office gel is high in concentration, sensitivity can be stronger than with home whitening. If your teeth are already sensitive, please tell us so we can suggest another option.

About the in-office whitening agent under Japanese regulations

The whitening agent used for in-office whitening (BEYOND) is not approved in Japan. There is no approved product in Japan with the same ingredients and performance, so it is imported by the dentist with an import permit from the Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare. [confirm: import route] [confirm: safety information in other countries] It may not be covered by Japan's Relief System for Sufferers from Adverse Drug Reactions.

FAQ

How white will my teeth get, and how long does it last?

Natural brightness only (not porcelain or paper white), results vary, some stains such as those from antibiotics, metal or non-vital teeth may not lighten, fillings and crowns don't change color, and the result lasts longer with visits every 3 to 6 months.

What can I eat and drink after whitening?

No acidic foods or drinks for 2 to 3 hours. No staining foods, drinks, colored mouthwash or smoking for 24 hours. It ends with a list of good choices.

Can anyone have whitening?

Not everyone. We do not offer whitening for patients under 18. Cavities and gum disease need to be treated first. Whitening may also not be suitable if you have certain conditions, such as collagen disease, acatalasemia, asthma, herpes, light sensitivity, heart disease with a pacemaker, or jaw joint problems (TMJ), or right after a facial cosmetic treatment. Some medicines can react to the whitening light and cause a rash, itching or swelling, so please tell us about any medicines you take and check with your doctor if you are being treated for an illness.
